Position Details

We are building an inclusive workplace to help realise the potential of our employees, embrace our differences, and apply our diverse thinking to innovation and delivering services to Victorian communities. All jobs can be worked flexibly and we encourage job applications from Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, young people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

The Department of Environment Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has a requirement to fill a Legal Practice Support Officer role within the Legal and Governance Division.  This is a varied role which supports the Deputy General Counsel, who is also the Director, Legal and provides executive and administrative support to action incoming queries and support the branch's workflow.

The overall duties entail providing service excellence to all internal and external stakeholders, diary management, ‘deadline management', legal matter administration, information and data management, generation of quality and accurate reports and general project support.  This role plays a key part in the success of a busy, high-performing team.

Our ideal candidate has previously worked in a fast-paced legal practice and is extremely familiar with the day to day requirements and work of a legal team.

Working closely with the Deputy General Counsel, your professional skills will be relied on to manage information with discretion, take instructions and apply your sharp mind to the demands of the role. You make it your job to be across all administrative matters for the Legal team and are ready to provide updates when asked.   You do not leave loose ends, problems unsolved or questions unanswered.

You are extremely organised in your multi-tasking – and are relied on to successfully deliver yours and the team's objectives. This style of work comes naturally to you, you do not get flustered, distracted or overwhelmed; and are able to stay on course in busy, high pressured environment.

You are not afraid of using new technologies such as ECM or SharePoint. Ideally you have these technical skills, but if you don't, you embrace new technology learning curves, and willingly apply yourself to learn and use these to an advanced stage.

You are a team-oriented employee and will work with other administrative and executive support staff in a supportive team environment. You have volumes of energy, professional enthusiasm and the required skills that will see you succeed in this role.

This is an ongoing position.

To be considered for this position, your application should include a supporting statement demonstrating that you meet the key selection criteria and any requirements specified in the position description.

DELWP will conduct relevant and required checks about applicants and the information provided with an application.  Such checks will include but are not limited to:

  • A Statutory Declaration and Consent form consenting to DELWP contacting current and previous employer(s) to substantiate employment history, past conduct and performance is required.
  • A satisfactory National Police Check will be required (for all non-DELWP employees).

Applications close at midnight, Wednesday 19 February 2020.
