Position Details

The Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning (DELWP) is tasked with ensuring that Victoria has the right conditions to enable economic growth while delivering liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities. DELWP brings together planning, local government and infrastructure, environment, climate change, energy and water functions to ensure an integrated approach to the development of long-term State and regional strategies.

The Executive Director, Planning Implementation is a key member of the executive leadership team and supports the Deputy Secretary in the areas of strategic planning, policy development and service activities for DELWP's Planning Group. The Planning Implementation division plays an important role in deliverying on high profile projects included in the Victorian 30-year metropolitan planning strategy, Plan Melbourne and other government initiatives. In this significant leadership role, the Executive Director will drive a high-performance culture.  The appointee will regularly communicate, advise and brief the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Minister and other senior government executives, including working across departments, on the progress of projects and other relevant long–term state and regional strategic initiatives.

Tertiary qualified in project management, planning or a related field, your senior executive-level experience, has preferably been gained within the public sector. You understand political decision making, governance, accountability and performance in complex organisations, and have extensive experience in delivering both policy/reform-related projects and critical projects that significantly impact on organisational objectives. Naturally focused on customer service and collaboration, you build high-performing, capable and customer focussed teams. Your advice is frank and fearless, and you demonstrate both high-level critical thinking skills and a willingness to challenge the status quo. As a seasoned leader, you are energised by the opportunity to oversee the delivery of a range of high-profile state-shaping planning projects.
