Position Details

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning's Water and Catchments Group (WCG) effectively manages Victoria's water resources to meet future urban, rural and environmental needs, working in partnership with stakeholders including water corporations and catchment management authorities.  It works across DELWP, and with other agencies, Ministers, stakeholders and the community to balance the economic, environmental and social values of water.

The Water Resource Strategy Division assesses and oversees water availability, ensures long term sustainable supply, and provides an informed technical base for resource management, planning and decision making for the broader Water and Catchments Group and the sector.

As the Director of the Water Resource Operations Policy Branch, within the broader Water Resource Strategy Division, you will be responsible for managing the State's water entitlements, allocations and access framework, delivering on a range of complex and sensitive strategic tasks, and involved with an interesting balance of operational, compliance and technical matters in developing forward looking policy and reform. The role encompasses the substantial Victorian water markets and trade dynamic as part of the southern Murray-Darling Basin. As a member of WCG's senior management team you will contribute to setting strategy, risk mitigation measures and effective resource allocation as well as lead, develop, motivate and mentor a high performing team of committed staff.  In addition you will initiate and establish high profile, strong relationships and networks across DELWP, WCG and other government agencies - directly providing the Minister, Secretary and Executive Team with sound, relevant, and timely policy advice.

If you can bring excellent leadership, people management and strategic thinking skills, and the ability to influence, engage and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders you will find this opportunity very attractive. Government experience and appropriate tertiary qualifications in natural resource management or other relevant disciplines are highly desirable.
