The Policy Officer is part of the Forest Policy branch, within the Policy and Planning division. The division is an important part of the Forest, Fire and Regions group, enabling the Department to efficiently, effectively and safely meet its forest, fire and emergency management responsibilities.

The Policy Officer will contribute to modernising the regulation of timber harvesting, including meeting certain obligations under Victoria's Regional Forest Agreements, delivering legislative and regulatory reforms that provide clarity for the timber harvesting industry, the environment, regulators and the community. The role will contribute to strategic policy, as well as legislative and regulatory reforms, working alongside more senior members of the team.

The Policy Officer will work collaboratively across the division and DELWP, building relationships to further policy objectives. The position requires policy and critical thinking skills, flexibility and adaptability to readily adjust to changing priorities, as well as strong interpersonal skills to understand the drivers behind others opinions and to build respectful relationships.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in public policy, law, natural resource or environmental management or similar is desirable.
  • Knowledge of and policy experience working with legal or regulatory frameworks is desirable.

This is a fixed term role available for a period of 10 months.
