About DELWP | Forest, Fire and Regions Group

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) brings together Victoria's climate change, energy, environment, water, forests, planning, local government  and emergency management  functions into a single department to maximise connections between the environment, community, industry and economy.

Forest, Fire and Regions (FFR) manages State forests, coasts and other public land, and delivers integrated, accessible and high-quality programs, projects and services across all DELWP portfolio areas, working collaboratively with local communities and other partners.

Reporting to the Executive Director Policy & Planning, you will inspire and empower your FFR Policy team (36 staff) to achieve a forward-looking focus on policy and strategy development. The Policy branch leads and influences a contemporary policy framework to establish the outcomes and strategic direction for the management and use of state forests, and fire and emergency management, to enable effective and efficient service delivery.

Drawing on your significant policy expertise you will lead the development, review and amendment of sub-ordinate legislation such as regulations and other key instruments like the Code of Practice for Timber Production, Code of Practice for Bushfire Management on Public Land, and forest and fire management zoning. You will facilitate input from internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with delivery partners to achieve best practice policy outcomes in forest, fire, emergency management and regulation.

As a member of the FFR executive leadership team, you will combine your significant people management expertise with your policy and public sector proficiency to mitigate emerging issues and capture opportunities. A highly conceptual thinker, you will contribute to the setting of strategy and policy imperatives. You'll establish clear directives for your team, translate operational priorities and deploy resources to maximise the value contribution of the policy team within FFR and DELWP.
