Position Details

We are building an inclusive workplace to help realise the potential of our employees, embrace our differences, and apply our diverse thinking to innovation and delivering services to Victorian communities. All jobs can be worked flexibly and we encourage job applications from Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, young people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has a requirement to fill four vacancies across the Hume Region – north east Victoria. These roles are identical and involves working as a field work crew member. These roles deliver forest management activities in Victoria's state forests and fire management activities in Victoria's national parks, state forests and protected public land.

This involves being a bulldozer operator for road and track maintenance, fire suppression duties and other land management activities.  Also, the role requires carrying out other duties such as weed spraying, mowing, tree felling and recreational facility maintenance.

Our successful candidates will already have a high level of competency as bulldozer operators and be able to engage in manual labour. They know how to operate various plant and equipment required for the construction of roads, trails and fire-breaks, such as pumps, tractors, slashers, chainsaws and whipper-snippers and other hand-held equipment. Successful applicants will be expected to undertake training to upskill in the safe and efficient use of this equipment.

At all times you will bring your common-sense safety focus to your work, as well as strictly apply DELWP's safety policies and processes. You have an understanding of the safe and effective use of tools and equipment. You are a team member, and always willing to assist where required. When at work you have initiative to work and are willing to apply yourself to the duties assigned.

This role has a strong focus on emergency response and may involve being deployed across the state for periods up to 7 days, for both emergency response and planned burning activities. These activities require a high level of fitness, as the work environment is often steep and remote from vehicles.

These are ongoing positions.

To be considered for this position, your application should include a supporting statement demonstrating that you meet the key selection criteria and any job requirements specified in the position description.

Applications close at midnight, Sunday 20 October 2019
