Position Details

The Forest and Fire Planning Officer contributes to high quality forest and fire management planning services through the Values and Assets Planning Team by supporting planning excellence, contributing to a high performing workforce culture that is customer focused, collaborative, professional and engaged, and ensuring the consistent, integrated and efficient delivery of forest and fire planning services.

The position has a focus on protecting forest values whilst enabling districts to implement government initiates and undertake maintenance activities, through Regional level coordination of values checking processes currently undertaken through the District Action Plan (DAP), and managing the Quickbase database for values checking and  heritage protection, and coordination of silvicultural works programs across the region.  It may from time to time involve planning of other forest management activities and services, including, domestic firewood coordination, permits for forest events and activities, forest recreation and visitor services and forestry regulation and permissions.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification related to natural resource management and/or relevant experience is desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in management of forested public land for a wide range of outputs including forest production, nature conservation, catchment protection, heritage protection and recreation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the DELWP District Action Plan process is desirable.
  • Proven ability to utilise online databases, including ability to load, extract, translate and transform table data. Experience with the Quickbase platform is desirable.

This is a fixed term role available until 30 June 2024. This position is located flexibly within the Hume Region.
