Position Details
As a District Cultural Burn Planner, you will play a key role in the development and expansion of the Cultural Burn Program across the Murray Goldfields district.This will include engagement with local Traditional Owners, preparation of burn plans within agreed standards and implementation of traditional/cultural burns on the ground. You will also engage with District and DEECA Regions staff to ensure the successful delivery of the cultural burn program.
This is designated position under s.12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of forest and fire management in Victoria including the Victorian Traditional Owner Cultural Fire Strategy.
- Knowledge and understanding of engagement with Traditional Owner groups in Victoria.
- Demonstrated experience in working effectively with Aboriginal people and the ability to communicate sensitively on cultural safety matters.
This is a fixed term position available until 30 August 2024. The work location for this position is flexible within the Loddon Mallee with hybrid work arrangements available.
