Position Details
The Natural Environment Program Officer provides high quality environmental advice to support decision making for statutory, environment related assessments with a focus on priority Victorian Government Infrastructure projects, including renewable energy, mining, road, rail. The role combines technical biodiversity knowledge with environmental assessment and regulation and having a sound understanding of relevant policy and legislative obligations including the Native Vegetation regulations, the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988, Environmental Effects Act 1978, Planning and Environment Act 1987 and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation 1999. The successful applicant will have a proven ability to solve complex issues and problems, work on a wide range of tasks with variable deadlines, and work in a team environment. They will demonstrate good influence and negotiation skills and an ability to provide advice to, and build relationships with, a wide variety of stakeholders including industry, consultants, other government agencies, and the community
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- An appropriate tertiary qualification related to natural resource management or other relevant field.
- Demonstrated ability to apply environmental and biodiversity assessment processes, focused on biodiversity risk management, native vegetation policy, and related legislation.
- Understanding of public land management as it relates to forests and fires and mitigation of risks to threatened species.
This is a fixed term position available until 03 March 2026. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
