The Senior Policy officer role involves leading policy research, analysis and development, ensuring delivery of significant energy program initiatives, informing legislative and regulatory reforms, and undertaking senior stakeholder management within one of the teams in either of the Energy Sector Reform division's two branches: Energy Markets & Networks and Energy Retail & Consumer Affordability Policy.

Accountabilities

  • (Energy Markets and Networks roles only) Lead and contribute to the development of complex energy policy relating to national electricity and gas market reforms and hydrogen policy, network policy, renewables policy or national institutions.
  • (Energy Retail and Customer Affordability Policy roles only) Provide authoritative, clear and timely policy advice in relation to the Government's energy fairness reforms and other energy consumer policy matters, as required.
  • Prepare accurate, concise, timely and relevant advice and documentation, briefings, correspondence, submissions and reports to articulate complex concepts for a range of audiences including Ministers and departmental executives.  
  • Generate sound policy options and identify, analyses and successfully influence relevant policy proposals and associated strategy and policy development across government.
  • Ensure that programs and projects are successfully delivered, identifying and managing project risks, creating efficient business systems and execution strategies.
  • Articulate and communicate information to, and liaise with, internal and external stakeholders.

The successful applicant will have a strong focus on detail, coupled with strategic policy leadership experience. The position requires high-level interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, including the capacity to work flexibly across the Energy Group. 

There are multiple fixed-term positions.
