The Senior Program Officer will support implementation of the Recreational Values policy and projects for Water and Catchments group. This role will suit a self-starter who can work independently in a fast-paced environment at both the strategic and detailed scales, enjoys diversity of projects and can manage ambiguity effectively.

Healthy rivers, streams, lakes and wetlands support the wellbeing of individuals and communities. The presence of water provides enjoyable sites for community gatherings, sporting events and outdoor activities – on and around water. Recreational use of our waterways can support tourism, providing job opportunities and economic growth and retain or attract residents in rural towns by making them a great place to live.

The Victorian Government recognises the importance of recreational uses of water. The Recreational Values program aims to improve water frameworks to better integrate recreational objectives through management of water resources and water bodies.

The successful candidate will have experience in working within complex project and policy development, and working with key internal and external stakeholders to effectively and collaboratively meet program objectives. 

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications


  • a tertiary qualification such as law, science, engineering, natural resource management, public administration or similar.
  • high level written English skills, with a focus on a “plain English” style.


  • knowledge of water resource and waterway management. It is preferred the candidate has good understanding of Victoria's water management framework.


This is a fixed term position available for a period of 6 months.
