Position Details

The Senior Planner is part of the priority projects team within the Development Approvals and Design Branch which is responsible for providing statutory planning services for priority projects to be managed in a facilitative manner delivering on the Minister for Planning's responsibilities in relation to the assessment of planning permit applications, planning scheme amendments and other requirements of planning legislation and instruments.

More specifically, the Senior Planner undertakes planning assessments for projects where the Minister for Planning is the responsible authority and will have a specific focus on undertaking the assessment of minor planning permit applications and secondary matters such as secondary consents, discharge of permit conditions and extensions of time. The Senior Planner manages all aspects of planning permit applications, including liaison with stakeholders, drafting of correspondence and input into the department's data and information systems.  Under supervision, the Planner provides advice on issues, options and solutions within a functional area of statutory responsibility.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and significant experience in urban planning is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in all statutory planning permit and development processes (including Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (Planning and Environment List) matters) is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing complex and/or strategically significant development proposals within a Melbourne central city or inner-city context is an advantage.

This is a fixed term position until 30 June 2023.
