Position Details

The Senior Planner is part of a team in Development Facilitation Branch which is responsible for providing statutory planning services to deliver the Minister for Planning's responsibilities in relation to the assessment of planning permit applications, planning scheme amendments, priority government projects and other requirements of planning legislation and instruments. The Senior Planner provides planning advice and assessments for development approvals with a specific focus on the statutory responsibility of managing all aspects of statutory planning matters, including liaising with stakeholders, negotiations with applicants, preparing assessment reports and briefs to the Minister for Planning and preparing correspondence and inputs to the department's data and information systems. More specifically, the Senior Planner will be primarily responsible for complex and large-scale planning matters, with particular attention given to priority projects where government intervention is being requested.

The Senior Planner provides advice on issues, options and solutions within a functional area of responsibility and will foster effective partnerships and networks with peers and stakeholders.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and significant experience in urban planning is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in all statutory planning permit and development processes (including Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (Planning and Environment List) matters) is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing complex and/or strategically significant development proposals within a Melbourne central city or inner-city context is an advantage.

This is a fixed term position available up until 30 June 2023.
