Position Details

The Senior Policy Officer in the Fire and Emergency Management Policy Branch plays a critical role in providing strategic, legislative and regulatory policy advice to support the integrated and effective management of bushfires on public land. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the Senior Policy Officer is responsible for designing and communciating policy options, building and managing stakeholder relationships, and delivering strategic projects to continuously improve Victoria's approach to bushfire management. To be successful in this position you will be a self-motivated and creative thinker who enjoys tackling complex policy problems, identifying and proactively addressing emerging issues, and working across changing priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.  

  • Deliver authoritative strategic, legislative and regulatory policy advice for Ministers and senior executives on issues relating to support the integrated and effective management of bushfires on public land
  • Prepare high quality and timely policy products for a range of audiences drawing on the latest evidence and research including briefing and correspondence, drafting instructions, reports, government submissions, presentations, meeting papers and related products as required
  • Identify emerging complex or highly sensitive issues, risks and trends impacting on the successful achievement of objectives and priorities and develop innovative solutions and options  

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in public policy, law, social science, emergency management or environmental management or similar is desirable  
  • Experience working in legislative and regulatory policy will be highly regarded.   

This is a fixed term position available for 12 months and is part-time at 0.6 FTE.

The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
