Position Details

Shape the implementation of biodiversity and fire risk management as part of this key State Government program!

The Senior Biodiversity Officer sits within the Strategic Fuel Breaks (SFB) Taskforce and will provide program wide oversight and leadership on matters relating to identification, risk mitigation, and approvals under the Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988, and Wildlife Act 1975 Act.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical and practicable knowledge and experience in the facilitation of good environmental outcomes, critical to enable effective program delivery of works on ground.

The role is suited to a self-motivated individual who is able to think critically and innovatively, and who will need to inform or develop advice for implementation on ground in a timely manner. Effective communication and influencing skills will be necessary as this will be a colaborative leadership role across the SFB program working with regional SFB teams, contractors, relevant technical experts and other DELWP businesses at regional and state levels.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in forest, environmental or spatial science, natural resource management, field work or similar.   
  • Industry experience and expertise in the practical application of legislation and policy outcomes within a program (desirable)

This is a fixed term position available to 31 March 2023. The location of this role is flexible within Victoria.
