Position Details

The Manager, Planning Projects will lead and manage a team to deliver an update of Plan Melbourne 2017-2050 (Plan Melbourne) and Plan Melbourne's 5 year Implementation Plan to ensure that it remains fit for purpose and relevant by responding to the COVID-19 disruption, government projects and policy initiatives, revised population forecasts and other city shaping influences. The role is responsible for managing and overseeing the development of planning policy and rationalised implementation actions, working collaboratively across State and Local Governments, and with other stakeholders.

Demonstrated experience in the delivery of complex strategic planning projects in private or public sectors is required for this role, as is a track record of delivering policy and planning projects on time and to budget.  A good understanding of Plan Melbourne is also required, as is strong capabilities in managing complex stakeholder environments.

Experience leading teams, and developing a strong and positive team culture, including staff development, coaching and empowerment is important for this role. 

The Manager, Planning Projects is a member of the Planning Projects leadership team and reports to the Director, Planning Projects.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification in Planning, Environment, Social Sciences, Economics, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Urban Design, is required. 
  • Proven leadership skills, including demonstrated capacity to provide: strategic management advice, direction and information in a complex environment and set strategic direction.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of complex land use planning or policy projects, managing project teams, in the public or private sectors is required.
  • Demonstrated project management experience to deliver projects on time and to budget, including proactively developing solutions to a wide range of project risks.
  • Demonstrated ability to build awareness and understanding of housing, economic and political trends that may affect the economy and consider the ramifications of these emerging issues and long-term impacts.

This is a fixed term position available until Until 30 June 2023.
