Position Details

About You

You are a passionate frontend web developer, someone who can see the big picture while having mastery of details. You are a self-starter and an excellent communicator, and you love taking initiative and pioneering new and creative ideas. Importantly, you're a team player who is driven and passionate about all things web design.

Ideally, we are looking for a candidate with some solid technical skills who knows their way around a supervised learning problem and finds the intersection of web apps and emergency management to be a tantalisingly exciting prospect.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in development of web applications, taking into account robustness, scalability, maintainability and performance
  • Develop new user-facing features
  • Be actively involved in improving existing applications
  • Build reusable components and libraries for future use
  • AA/AAA Accessibility focussed
  • Champion unit tests and feature level front end automation across browsers and devices
  • Collaborate with backend developers on API requirements
  • Collaborate with designers and analysts to ensure understanding and feasibility of UI/UX designs

Essential Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications:

  • A strong understanding of HTML, CSS/SCSS, Bootstrap, modern JS and TypeScript, and modern frontend development and build tools (Webpack, Babel, ESLint, Prettier, etc.)
  • Experience using frameworks such as AngularJS, Vue.js, React or similar
  • Experience with REST API integration
  • UX Experience, wireframes, mock-ups and story boarding
  • Familiarity with git and GitHub or similar
  • Excellent communication skills and team attitude
  • A passion for the web and an eye for detail
  • A portfolio of web development work

Desirable:

  • Experience with AngularJS 9+ specifically
  • Familiarity with interface design tools such as Figma
  • Exposure to Azure cloud platform (App Services, App Functions, DevOps)
  • Familiarity with .Net Core, C# and Entity Framework Core
  • An understanding of database design and SQL
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies
  • A link to your GitHub/GitLab repo and/or portfolio in your covering letter

Nice to have:

  • Experience building JAMstack sites
  • Experience building mobile apps (specifically using Xamarin)
  • Experience with GraphQL
  • Contributions to open source projects are favourably looked upon

Who are we?

We are the Forest, Fire and Regions Group, part of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning. We manage Victoria's state forests, coasts, and other public land, and deliver integrated, accessible and high-quality programs, projects and services, working collaboratively with local communities and other partners. We provide high-quality advice to the government on forest, fire, and emergency management, and have a lead role in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from fire and other emergencies, to reduce impacts on people, property, and the environment.

This is a fixed term positions available for 18 months.
