Position Details

The Climate Change Adaptation and Risk Branch is leading an exciting program of work to provide evidence-based analysis and advice to the Victorian Government on policies and measures that support the state of Victoria to effectively manage climate risk and build resilience to the impacts of climate change. This includes:

  • improving and broadening the scope, relevance and application of Victoria's evidence base for managing climate risk and building the state's climate resilience
  • identifying, analysing and advising on key policy issues to support robust government decisions on managing climate risk and building Victoria's climate resilience
  • strengthening key decision makers' ownership and accountability for understanding and acting on climate risk and building Victoria's climate resilience.

The Senior Policy Officer role will join the adaptation team through to 31 December 2023, contributing to a dynamic work program, including:

  • working to strengthen and expand the case for climate change adaptation action, including narrative, evidence base and assessment methodology for investment in adaptation
  • providing advice on climate change adaptation priorities and working with partners to build resilience to climate change in Victoria.
  • providing advice to decision makers in applying future climate information in their decision making.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Experience in undertaking complex policy analysis and providing high level policy advice is required.   
  • Experience undertaking engagement with stakeholders across government, industry and the community on complex policy issues is desirable. 
  • Experience in project management and coordination is desirable.  
  • A well-developed understanding of Victorian Government policy processes is desirable.  
  • Tertiary qualification(s) including post-graduate qualification(s) in social sciences, public policy, natural resources and environmental management, law or similar is desirable.  

This is a fixed term position available until 31 December 2023. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
