Position Details


We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Program Officer with knowledge of Aboriginal culture, society and land management, who is great at partnership development and project management, and is passionate about Aboriginal self-determination and the environment.

This new role will support the Grampians region's implementation of DEECA commitments associated with Recognition and Settlement Agreements between the State of Victoria and Traditional Owner Corporations. The current focus is on the Recognition and Settlement Agreement with the Barengi Gadgin Land Council (on behalf of the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk peoples) under the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 (Vic) and the associated public land and natural resource management actions. The position will also support relevant actions in the region associated with Pupangarli Marnmarnepu, DEECAs Aboriginal Self-Determination Reform Strategy 2020-2025.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, society, and land and resource management issues in Victoria and understanding of networks within Victorian Aboriginal communities and natural resource management agencies is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with diverse Traditional Owner groups and Aboriginal Victorians and proven ability to strengthen, maintain and build relationships and partnerships is desirable.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2024. The work location for this position is flexible within the Grampians Region.
