Position Details

The Senior Policy Officer is part of the Flood Inquiries Taskforce team, who are responsible for coordinating and driving DEECA's engagement with the Victorian Government's Parliamentary Inquiry into Victoria's major flooding event of October 2022 (the Inquiry). Through a partnership approach, the Flood Inquiry team will work across the department to coordinate requests for information, government's response, implementation of recommendations and reporting.

The Senior Policy Officer will work collaboratively across the division and with key partners within and externally to DEECA to ensure effective processes are in place to support DEECA involvement in the Inquiry.  In this role, you will build relationships and use influence to coordinate across DEECA and further policy objectives. The position requires strong policy and critical thinking skills, contextual awareness to navigate a dynamic environment, in addition to project management skills, to ensure DEECA input and processes are timely and well-targeted and delivered successfully. The position also requires Emergency Management or Water policy experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead engagement with the Parliamentary Inquiry from a DEECA wide perspective in supportive team with a culture of flexibility.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Experience in Emergency Management and/or Water policy is highly desirable.
  • Tertiary qualification(s) in public policy, law, natural resource or environmental management or similar is desirable.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2024. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
