Position Details

This position provides important plant biosecurity services through plant pest and disease surveillance in East Gippsland, and the wider South East Region. In conjunction with Agriculture Victoria Authorised Officers, the position plays a key role with industry in facilitating market access for Victorian producers.

As a Biosecurity Survey Officer, you will be required to work as a member of a small team in the South East Region to complete corn crop surveys during the active growing season (typically from January to April required to complete the contract requirements), as well as other pests and diseases. This will include the surveillance, identification and recording of pests and diseases using a structured process.

You may also be required to be deployed to emergency response roles when requested, whilst also contributing to other priorities during periods of heightened resource demand.

This position has responsibilities under the Plant Biosecurity Act 2010 and Plant Biosecurity Regulations 2016.

The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team within the Plants, Chemicals and Invasives Branch in the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services Division.

 Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Current Drivers Licence for a motor vehicle
  • Hold a current Applied First Aid Certificate (Level 2 to be completed during probation period)
  • Vaccination against Q fever is recommended.

Desired Experience:

  • Practical experience in corn disease surveillance would be desired but not mandatory, as on the job training will be provided.

This is a casual position available for a period until 4 January 2027. The work location for this position is Bairnsdale.
