The Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services for VicGrid, the Director, Finance will manage VicGrids's financial matters and provide expert advice to the organisation on VicGrid financial matters ensuring financial activities comply with the Government's financial management framework.  

The role is responsible for building and guiding a high performing team of financial professionals who will manage all aspects of finance for VicGrid Whilst supporting senior leadership within VicGrid, the Director, Finance is required to work closely and collaboratively with other executives.

What you will deliver

  • You will develop and lead the financial management of VicGrid, including the implementation, monitoring and review of financial systems, policies and procedures ensuring VicGrid's business requirements are met and comply with relevant government legislation, directives and accounting standards. 
  • You will lead and manage a customer focussed team responsible for all financial transactions, monitoring and reporting requirements, ensuring effective management of VicGrid's budget priorities. 
  • You will ensure compliance with all statutory, Departmental and professional standards including the Financial Management Act and the Directions of the Minister for Finance, Australian Accounting Standards, all Australian (State and Federal) tax legislation and policies and procedures of the Central Agencies. 
  • You will lead, inspire and communicate a compelling vision for the financial management and strategy which aligns to the vision, mission, business and organisational objectives of VicGrid. 

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated financial literacy skills, including a working knowledge of Government budget and financial policies and processes including the Financial Management Act 1984 and the legislative framework for public sector financial management and directions in relation to accounting standards. 
  • A strong track record of achievement in developing and maintaining highly effective financial management processes, preferably within a government environment with a demonstrated ability to undertake analysis of complex financial information and develop practical solutions and report identifying emerging issues. 
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or other related discipline is mandatory. 
  • A member of either CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants or other relevant organisation is mandatory.
