The Opportunity

The Director, Procurement is responsible for developing, implementing and managing procurement and governance frameworks, policies, procedures, systems and standards across VicGrid. The Director, Procurement will provide authoritative strategic advice and expertise on procurement, purchasing, commercial practices, governance and probity. The Director Procurement will draw on exemplary knowledge and skills in the areas of leadership, people management, strategic thinking, communication and change management to guide and facilitate best in class procurement practices.

The Director, Procurement is a direct report to the Director, Commercial and is accountable for developing a high performing procurement function and team of procurement specialists that have a strong focus on value for money, robust governance, effective systems and building organisational capability (people, process, technology and content).

The Director, Procurement will facilitate and lead relationships with key internal and external stakeholders at senior levels across VicGrid, DEECA, the Victorian Government Purchasing Board (VGPB), and industry. The Director, Procurement will engage and influence stakeholders to negotiate outcomes, enlist cooperation and resolve conflict, while maintaining collaborative relationships.

What you will deliver

  • You will lead the development implementation and management of procurement and governance frameworks, policies, procedures, systems and standards across VicGrid ensuring compliance with VGPB policies.
  • You will lead the Procurement function to deliver best in class services with a strong focus on value for money, good governance and enhancing organisational capability (people, process, technology and content) in an everchanging and complex environment.
  • You will develop and maintain collaborative partnerships and influential relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders including executives, government, industry, VGPB and the supply chain, negotiating and influencing decisions and outcomes to ensure success of VicGrid's goals and objectives.
  • You will provide authoritative, strategic advice and expertise to senior executives, and staff, on a range of complex procurement related matters and drive value for money across the procurement lifecycle, ensuring long-term benefits are achieved.

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated senior experience in leadership roles of a procurement function for a government delivery agency (or equivalent), including expertise in key procurement functions, such as strategic sourcing, category management, purchase to pay, governance (including internal controls, risk and probity) and contract management is essential.  
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills including the ability to articulate key messages to staff at different levels across the organisation and review and approve a wide variety of documentation.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, engineering, economics or related procurement discipline are essential.
