Position Details

This Research Scientist will undertake research leading to improved productivity and resilience of dryland agricultural systems in southern Australia to changing climates as part of the Agricultural Resources Sciences team. The role focuses on providing specialist expertise in soil physics to a new National Soil Action Plan funded project focusing on the relationship between soil structure, productivity and the environmental sustainability of Victorian farming systems in changing climates. The person will manage a state of art soil physics laboratory. With time the person has the opportunity to contribute specialist expertise to a broader range of projects as well as develop new projects. The person will manage, analyse, and interpret soil data sets and communicate results to a range of stakeholders as well as publishing in conference and peer-reviewed journals. The successful applicant will need to work effectively with a range of people, including farmers, technicians, post graduate students and scientists. They need to be self-motivated, well organised, able to innovate, problem solve and have a passion to undertake world class research and innovation that improves the sustained profitability of Australian agricultural systems.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Essential: A PhD in relevant discipline area such as Soil Science or Natural Resource Sciences.
  • Desirable: High level knowledge of soil processes, especially soil physics
  • Desirable: Knowledge of laboratory and field procedures used for soil physic analysis
  • Desirable: Demonstrated experience in the design, management and analysis of soil research.
  • Desirable: Well-developed verbal, written communication and presentation skills and demonstrated ability to publish in peer reviewed journals.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 2 Years. The work location for this position is Tatura with hybrid work arrangements available.
