Position Details

Are you seeking an opportunity to play a key role in delivering on Government's commitments to Truth, Treaty and First Peoples self-determination reform? If so, this rewarding role may be for you!

The Senior Policy Officer will support DEECA's response to and engagement with the Yoorrook Justice Commission, provide policy advice on emerging issues and priorities, develop and implement strategies to support Treaty preparation and negotiations, and contribute to the implementation of DEECA's self-determination reform agenda.

The position requires strong policy, analytical and communication skills; a sound understanding and experience in the delivery of complex projects; and an ability to influence and work collaboratively with stakeholders. A high level of cultural capability and awareness is required including an understanding of Victoria's Aboriginal Self-Determination reform agenda.

This position is classified as an “identified position” aimed at increasing employment opportunities for Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People. Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Cultural capability: Demonstrated knowledge of policies and legislation relevant to First Peoples rights and interests in Victoria (e.g. Treaty, Self-Determination); demonstrated ability to engage with First Peoples to enable the development and delivery of priority projects that enable self-determination.

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
