Position Details
An exciting opportunity is available for two Program Managers Natural Environment (Housing) to work closely with a newly created Housing Unit to support the assessment of housing projects across the state. The Program Manager Natural Environment (Housing) delivers place-based, high-quality statutory environmental and biodiversity related assessment and advice in the context of complex and competing policy priorities, specifically focused on Victorian Government's Housing Statement. The Natural Environment Program's key focus is to identify and manage risks to biodiversity and provide mitigation advice relating to urban and infrastructure development. Collaboration with the planners in the Housing Unit within the Planning and Environment Assessment statewide team and environmental experts will be required. You will use your communication skills to develop and maintain positive relationships across government agencies and with external stakeholders to contribute to the delivery of planning outcomes that support housing growth and the protection of biodiversity values.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- An appropriate tertiary qualification in science or natural resource management is mandatory.
- Detailed working knowledge of and experience in applying the Victoria Planning Provisions and experience in the preparation of place based strategic plans is desirable.
- Good technical knowledge and understanding of biodiversity issues, legislation and policy, specifically the Native Vegetation regulations and the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988, Environmental Effects Act 1978 and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation 1999 is necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to apply environmental and biodiversity assessment processes, focused on biodiversity risk management, native vegetation policy and related legislation is desirable.
There are two ongoing positions available. The work location for these positions is flexible within the Barwon South West, Port Phillip or Grampians Regions with hybrid work arrangements available.
