Position Details

About us

The Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) is a 560 bed medium to maximum security facility for female offenders located within the West Metropolitan Region.

About the role

As a Senior Prison Officer, you will take a lead role within custodial teams, coaching, mentoring and supporting Prison Officers. Your role will encompass a range of teamwork, case management, custodial and security responsibilities.

In the role, you will:

  • manage and coordinate the day-to-day operations of a team of Prison Officers
  • manage a caseload of offenders, including more difficult and complex offenders
  • prepare prisoner assessments and provide advice and recommendations to prison-based committees and participate in programs and a variety of prisoner and prison activities
  • participate in the performance management process, delivery of training, coaching and support to prison officers
  • communicate with and provide directions to offenders, respond constructively to offender complaints or requests and provide pro-active assistance and guidance to offenders when required
  • conduct searches and seize contraband ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • completed the Prison Officer Pre-Service Training
  • excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to effectively supervise and coach staff
  • demonstrated conflict management skills with the ability to manage difficult and complex offenders.
