Fantastic opportunity for an experienced and hands on Human Resources and Employee Relations professional to enhance the business partnerships function within a dynamic and iconic organisation. HR Business Partnerships are a critical component of the broader People and Culture directorate at the MFB and provide essential partnerships to both corporate and operational leaders. The Manager HR Business Partnerships will enhance and grow a team of HR Business Partners to successfully deliver best practice, commercially focussed solutions and build management capability in line with the broader people strategy. The MFB respond to 34,000 calls per year from Melbourne’s four million residents and employs 2003 fire fighters and 388 corporate staff. Job Description

As a leader within the HR team, reporting to the Director Human Resources, you will utilise your strong communication, employee relations and stakeholder management skills to partner with senior leaders in a range of people matters. Additionally you will play a critical role in the leadership and development of a small team of HR Business Partner professionals, continuing the direction and strategy of an effective partnering model across the organisation.

Your job responsibilities will include:

  • Partner with senior leaders through the provision of operational and strategic advice on employee life cycle related matters
  • Lead and develop a team of HR Business Partner professionals
  • Work with HR leaders and peers to help develop and drive the people strategy in enhancing the employment experience of all employees and building the organisations reputation as a preferred employer  
  • Identify insights and actions from people metrics to provide focused support,      facilitation, coaching and implementation of solutions that deliver results to the satisfaction of stakeholders
  • Research, develop and maintain best practice policies, procedures, guidelines and practices which enable greater line management accountability and understanding of contemporary human resource management.

Your ability to collaborate with, and influence both internal and external stakeholders is paramount to this role, as you will be driving mutually beneficial outcomes in a complex and sometimes challenging environment. Candidates able to demonstrate experience operating in a highly unionised organisation will be very highly regarded. You will also possess:

  • A formal degree qualification in human resource management or a related discipline
  • A strong understanding of contemporary human resource practices, employee relations and relevant employment legislation  
  • Strong influencing skills to manage multiple senior stakeholders across an urban span. The role requires effective interaction with many senior stakeholders and peers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • A strong, proactive client service focus.
  • Authentic leadership skills and a proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
