Position Details

An exciting role now exists for an experienced Legal professional with a service excellence ethos to join the Corporate Services division at Ambulance Victoria (AV).   This is a full-time, 12 month fixed term contract until 1 October 2019 based at our Doncaster headquarters.

To be successful in the role, you will have a strong focus in providing legal advice on legislation, agreements and general legal advice for AV as requested.  Responsible for in-house legal support for a range of issues and projects, including coordinating various contracts, litigated matters, intellectual property issues, research, drafting legal documents, providing ad hoc advice and assisting in negotiations as appropriate.

 

About the role

Reporting to the General Counsel, the main duties of the role also include (but are not limited to);

  • Prepare, review and advise on agreements across AV, including commercial and collaborative agreements
  • Provide legal advice and recommendations to contract managers on contract management issues, including potential contract breaches, contract performance issues, and dispute resolution
  • Analyse and interpret various legislation, case law and government publications and their potential impact on AV, including the Consumer Laws, Public Administration Act, Privacy and Data Protection Act, Health Records Act, Freedom of Information Act etc.
  • Develop and review policies as required relating to  AV activities to ensure AV maintains efficient and effective systems for the management of legal issues
  • Manage litigation matters as required by General Counsel on behalf of AV, including liaison with VMIA and VMIA-appointed legal representatives and preparation of court documentation and internal AV documents as required
  • Represent AV in external meetings on legal issues as required
  • Provide standard professional services, exercising judgement and promote early intervention strategies, encouraging AV employees to seek legal counsel for potentially complex, sensitive or litigious matters

 

About you

The successful applicant will have significant experience with legal advisory in complex organisations, supported by a tertiary qualification in (LLB) admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory or eligibility for admission to practice. 

They will be au fait with providing leadership support across all business units and will be comfortable in routinely advising senior stakeholders on general legal matters.  Possessing high level expertise and detailed knowledge of legal matters in a workplace, you are experienced in providing advice to senior management on policy issues and service solutions.

You will be an exemplary communicator and will possess strong leadership skills to allow you to hold integrity with decision making on complex matters and maintain constructive relationships with stakeholders across the business.

Candidates must be willing to travel throughout the region when required.

The successful candidate may also be required to undergo relevant security checks, such as a police record check.
