Position Details

 There are currently two Senior Environment Protection Officer (SEPO) being recruited as part of the Illegal Waste Disposal Program in the Preventative and Priority Programs Unit.

The Senior Environment Protection Officers are responsible for compliance, enforcement and consequence management within a program of work that aims to:

  • Proactively disrupt the systematic illegal disposal of waste through targeted compliance and enforcement activities based on strong data analytics, intelligence, surveillance and co-regulatory co-operation; and
  • Work with stakeholders across the sector and wider community in the co-design of effective prevention and communications and engagement initiatives to address underlying drivers of illegal waste disposal behaviours.

This role may be required to provide support in locations across the state to ensure the successful delivery of the Illegal Waste Disposal Program.

The role is critical to EPA operating as both a regulator and influential authority. The role requires a high level of judgement, technical skills, leadership and a commitment to EPA's aim of protecting the environment.


To be Successful in this Role:

  • This role requires successful completion of EPA's Authorised Officer training (mandatory)
  • Solid experience in environmental management, regulation, law or relevant experience in industry
  • The ability to apply innovative thinking to resolves operational service delivery challenges consistent with program objectives
  • Strong negotiation and engagement skills
  • Strong regulatory skills
  • Experience in compliance, enforcement and consequence management for illegal waste disposal issues would be highly regarded.
