Peer Support Program Coordinator

Ambulance Victoria's mission is to improve the health of our community by delivering innovative, high quality ambulance services.  Wellbeing & Support Services (WSS) currently has an exciting opportunity for a Peer Support Program Coordinator to join our team on a permanent ongoing basis at the Doncaster Headquarters.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager Peer & Pastoral Care, the primary objective of this role is the coordination of projects aligned to the Peer Support Program all policies, procedures and relevant legislation to AV's core business to ensure that the Peer Support Program is appropriately resourced and accessible to AV employees and their immediate family members who may be dealing with stressful and traumatic situations.

The focus of the Peer Support Program Coordinator is to ensure that adjunct programs, training and projects that support the peer support team are coordinated and to relieve in the Peer Support Coordinator positions as necessary.

The main duties of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop, maintain and administer projects that align the peer support program policies and procedures in accordance with organisational and program standards, training and refresher requirements for the peer support team.
  • Practice, promote and educate peers and others in the MANERS Model of Psychological First Aid, wellbeing and support programs as developed and ensure consistency within planning timeframes and budget.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of peers, working with the Manager, Peer and Pastoral Care to ensure processes are in place to support the recruitment and selection of Peers state-wide.
  • Coordinate Peer Support training and development activities and refresher training in consultation with external providers and the Wellbeing and Support Services team to ensure Peer skills are maintained and accreditation is current.
  • Develop and maintain a Peer roster to coordinate the daily allocation of rostering of Peers to ensure effective coverage at all times to meet employee and organisational needs
  • Relieve as the operational Peer Support Coordinator including a centralised system for receiving, reviewing, recording and delegating all notifications and suitable peer support rosters, pro-active Peer Support notifications
  • Implement strategies to further develop AV's Peer Support Volunteer network including raising awareness and engagement across the state.

About you

The successful candidate will have Operational experience and have demonstrated empathy for employees and their families and high level of integrity in working through sensitive issues.

You will have strong verbal and written communication skills to enable effective interaction with staff and key stakeholders including relationship building skills to develop strong and collaborative relationships and rapport with internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be able to coach and mentor Peers in the provision of advice and recommendations provided to other AV staff.

Your ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment and respond to notifications for Peer Support for major and critical incidents and attend to peer support needs and referral services as required will see your success in the role.
