Position Details

About us

The North West Metropolitan Area accounts for approximately 1300 staff across 13 sites. These sites are located in either the North or West of the Area and deliver a range of services including: custodial services at prisons, Community Correctional Services, Sheriff's Operations, Consumer Affairs, front of house enquiries (including Births, Deaths and Marriages applications) and management of community services (including Victims' Support across the area). In addition, there are two Executive Officer roles of the Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Council, West and North.

The Metropolitan Remand Centre is a 954 bed maximum-security facility for unsentenced male offenders located within the West Metropolitan Region of the Department of Justice.

About the role

The role of the Offender Management officer at the Metropolitan Remand Centre is to act as a ‘change agent' by providing support and training to custodial staff regarding the caseworker's role at the Metropolitan Remand Centre. It operates under the guidance and direction of the Offender Management Supervisor.  Your main responsibilities will include:

  • actively participating in the performance management process, delivery of training, coaching and support to prison officers in prisoner assessment
  • conducting regular audits of Individual Management Files and ensure files are maintained to the agreed standard
  • communicating with, providing direction to, and responding constructively to prisoners and their complaints or requests, relevant to offender management.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

  • completion of the Corrections Victoria Prison Officer pre service-training course
  • strong written and verbal communications skills
  • the ability to conflict manage by moving individuals past their emotional responses and toward a common understanding and solution.
