Position Details
THE ROLE
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Principal Legal Officer will provide authoritative legal advice supporting the Victorian Disability Worker Commission (the Commission) and the Disability Worker Registration Board of Victoria (the Board) established under the Disability Service Safeguards Act 2018 (Vic) (the Act). This includes providing expert and timely advice on highly complex and sensitive legal matters, the delivery of investigation and regulatory services and support to the Commission in areas such as privacy, public administration obligations and policies and procedures
This role is a senior position in the Commission and will assist the General Counsel to embed sound legal structures across the Commission and Board and lead the delivery of key legal projects. This role will also work closely with the Complaints, Investigation and Compliance team, Registration and Operations Development team and the Commission's policy and corporate functions.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Provide authoritative advice on complex legal and policy issues, and prepare high level briefings and correspondence demonstrating knowledge, risk assessment and a strong understanding of cross government legal policy considerations.
- Lead the delivery of high quality, client focused and cost-effective legal services in relation to highly complex and sensitive matters. Manage the development and implementation of primary and subordinate legislation proposals and policy reforms, including identifying legal risks and providing practical recommendations to address such risks.
- Provide sound legal advice to guide the day-to-day operations of the Commission, including, but not limited to, development of regulatory systems for registration processes, management of complaints, investigation procedures, referrals to other regulatory agencies.
