About the Business Unit

Beechworth Correctional Centre is a Corrections Victoria, minimum security prison for men, located in Northeast Victoria, within the Hume Region of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS).

Corrections Victoria develops and implements policies, programs, and services to ensure that safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

Corrections Victoria manages Community Correctional Services locations across the state and is responsible for managing Victoria's public prisons and overseeing the contracts relating to the management of the privately operated prisons. In doing so, Corrections Victoria delivers a safe and secure corrections system that actively engages offenders to promote positive behaviour change and prepare offenders for release back into the community.

 

About the Role

Grounds and Garden Officers are responsible for the management and delivery of specific functions within the prison. This includes assisting with the management of prisoner employment, safe operating procedures and other Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements, and compliance with prison industry procedures.

Some of your duties may include;

  • Maintain security and control prisoner movement through surveillance and the operation of all security equipment including prisoner reception and discharge; escorts (prisoners, visitors and contractors); all prescribed search and security procedures.
  • Be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the maintenance of the Prison.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in good working order, maintain general cleanliness of the work site, and ensure that proper directions are given to prisoners concerning industrial health and safety.

 

About You

To be successful in this role you must have;

  • Relevant experience in Garden and Ground Keeping

Qualificaitons/Requirements

  • Successful completion of Corrections Officer program
  • A relevant trade qualification is highly regarded

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its employees consistent with the department's obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic). Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.

At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. 

Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).

Acceptable evidence includes:

  • COVID-19 digital certificate or ATAGI exemption certificate (available via your myGov account)
  • Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)

Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
