Position Details
THE ROLE
The Senior Paralegal Officer will provide high-level operational and leadership support to the Statewide Child Protection Litigation Office's paralegal team, with particular focus to supporting complex litigation and appellant work.
The position will have a role in supervising a small team of paralegals and have an operational focus while working alongside the Team leader. The role provides a wide range of administrative and operational support functions with a focus on child protection litigation. The role will be a point of contact for key stakeholders involved in the day-to-day management of court lists across court venues of the Children's Court of Victoria. The role may at times require intrastate travel across areas to support paralegal litigation functions.
The paralegals perform a critical role in supporting child protection solicitors who provide legal advice, case management and representation for the Child Protection Program across regional and metropolitan offices. Paralegal duties include performing file and record management tasks, coordinating court listings, case allocations and barrister briefings, and assisting with legal correspondence and legal research. The Senior Paralegal has a critical role in supporting high-quality legal services including mentoring and training staff on paralegal procedures and systems.
Effective people management and mentoring, together with attention to detail and motivating a high performing team underpin success in this role as well as a demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Supervise a group of paralegals providing litigation support functions within the work area and related areas regarding processes and systems, including providing guidance and support.
- Mentoring and training staff on paralegal procedures and systems used in matter management.
- Coordination of Statewide Paralegal Team rostering ensuring daily coverage and prioritisation of work tasks in consultation with the Team Leader.
