The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Facility and Assets Manager to provide a critical role in the Barwon Precinct.


About us

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is building a new maximum-security prison, which is due to commence operations in 2022. The prison is an essential part of the government's commitment to improving community safety and will be built near the existing HM Prison Barwon, Marngoneet Correctional Centre and Karreenga (the annex to Marngoneet). With these four prisons in proximity, Corrections Victoria has committed to establishing the Barwon Precinct, which will see shared operating models developed between these prisons to improve prisoner outcomes and create efficiencies.


About the role

The Facility and Assets group was established as a portion of the Barwon Precinct to provide local and contracted facility and asset management service that has consistent and transparent service levels.

The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, an important facet of the role involves liaison with custodial operations leadership and preparation of analytical informed contributions to develop and maintain the prison infrastructure.

Some of the duties of the role include:

  • deliver works packages across the Barwon Precinct as allocated by the Senior Manager, Facility and Assets
  • provide supervisory management of internal maintenance staff and contracted resources
  • provide monthly reporting to the Senior Manager and General Manager, Facility and Assets on the progress of works packages allocated
  • audit works delivered by internal and contracted resources to ensure that works are delivered to a quality of work typical of the standard recognised within the industry and befitting a skilled tradesperson
  • prepare funding submissions
  • administrative record keeping within the DJCS enterprise document management system TRIM, as per the requirements of the Public Records Act 1973 (Vic)
  • document risks known and perceived within the packages of works allocated by the Senior Manager, Facility and Assets

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • response to reactive facility infrastructure and systems failures
  • programming proactive facility and asset management maintenance packages
  • preparing reports, briefs and correspondence on complex issues that impact at facility and assets management activities
  • providing authoritative application of processes relating to facility and asset management activities
  • supervisory management of internal staff and / or contracted resources
