Department policy stipulates that salary upon commencement is paid at the base of the salary range for the relevant grade. About us

The Security and Emergency Services Group (SESG) within Corrections Victoria is comprised of a group of highly trained Officers who provide a range of services to both private and public prisons. These services include barrier control, emergency management, incident response, emergency management planning, K9 services, high security escorts, fire awareness services, urinalysis, and correctional staff training.

About the role

As a Supervisor within the SESG, you will lead and manage staff to achieve program and service outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment. This multifaceted role encompasses human resource management, coaching and developing staff, OH&S requirements, EEO legislation responsibilities, staff employment and training requirements, and budget monitoring.

An important facet of the role involves liaising with prison staff and external stakeholders, and preparing analytical and informed contributions to develop and deliver services and processes. The role plays an integral part in developing, implementing, reinforcing and reviewing practice and procedures relating to offender management and security management. The Supervisor actively leads working parties and reference groups, and provides advice through written reports to senior management.

Custodial duties involve directing and supervising teams in conducting searches and escorts, surveillance, observing and assessing prisoner behaviour, operating a variety of security equipment, and collating information.

The SESG have 7 x Operational Supervisor positions vacant across various SESG locations including HMP Barwon, the Metropolitan Remand Centre and Loddon Prison Precinct.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • extentable baton and OC spray qualifications, and hold a current firearms licence (or be able to undertake and successfully complete the required training)
  • a standard of fitness, or have the ability to attain a level of fitness, that would withstand the demands of any training course and maintenance thereafter
  • the ability to design and deliver training courses to both correctional services staff and private organisations as required
  • excellent communication and leadership skills.

Successfully completion, or the willingness to complete, Corrections Victoria Prison Officer pre-service training is a requirement of the role. You will also need to undergo a security clearance to the level of SECRET via the Australian Security Vetting Service.
