About us

Marngoneet Correctional Centre (Marngoneet) a 793 bed medium security facility based on a treatment community model, providing intensive treatment and offending behaviour programs to males who are at a moderate to high risk of re-offending. 

Commencing 2012, Corrections Victoria was responsible for the management and funding arrangements relating to the delivery of education and training in Victorian prisons.  The Education and Training Strategy, which seeks to improve education, training and employment outcomes for prisoners and provides a framework that supports a whole of system, integrated approach to education and training, forms the basis for the new service delivery model that will progressively be implemented over the period.

Currently, Skills Victoria funds six public TAFE providers to deliver vocational education and training (VET) into the State's 11 public prisons.  They deliver a range of accredited education and training programs for prisoners, including courses such as adult basic education, hospitality, engineering, construction, horticulture. The range of vocational education and training offered within prisons is targeted to areas of skills shortage in the community, which provide ex-prisoners with better opportunities to gain meaningful employment upon release. 

About the role

The Senior Education Officer will support the implementation of the Education and Training Strategy through provision of a range of support, coordination and planning services for prisoners engaging in VET and distance education.  They will service a location or multiple locations and focus on the day-to-day operations of these locations.  Understanding issues affecting the participation of prisoners in education and training is a core part of the role, and the Senior Education Officer will provide leadership in addressing such issues.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • experience in the coordination of operational service delivery across a variety of business units and program areas, including service performance monitoring and reporting
  • knowledge and experience within an education environment
  • knowledge and experience within a correctional services environment.
