The Policy and Innovation Division drives future transport opportunities, legislative and policy reform, and imbed a deep understanding of the user and innovative technology.


About the Opportunity

The primary role of the senior modelling analyst is to support the development and application of specialist multi-modal transport network modelling and analysis systems and processes and assists in the wider activities of the Branch.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Undertake analysis and research in developing and enhancing strategic transport model(s) and other strategic modelling tools.
  • Contribute to the development of the model improvement roadmap through identification of the most appropriate set of tools to be utilised and optimal model design.
  • Maintain the Department's strategic modelling tools and associated datasets including version control and distribution.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams and other policy, transport planning and reform areas within the portfolio, regarding the application and development of strategic transport demand modelling tools, other strategic modelling tools, and best practice forecasting approaches.
  • Support and champion the application of the Department's strategic transport demand modelling tools, and other strategic modelling tools, for business case evaluation and policy development, including effective leveraging off prior analysis.
  • Keep informed and maintain contacts relating to national and international developments in strategic modelling techniques.
  • Work with others within the Transport portfolio, other departments and with external stakeholders to support policy, planning, reform and project development for the transport system.


About you:


  • Demonstrated understanding of, and experience in, the development, maintenance and application of strategic transport demand models and/or other strategic modelling tools.
  • Experience in managing consultants in strategic model development tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic transport demand modelling, and other strategic modelling, software and data analysis tools.

  • Excellent written communication skills to prepare complex briefs, letters, emails and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language; Edits written communications to ensure they contain the information necessary to achieve their purpose and meet audience needs; Ensures appropriate style and formats are used.
  • Excellent verbal communication skill to confidently convey ideas and information in a clear and interesting way; clearly understands the target audience and the objectives of the communication; Uses audience feedback to refine communication and ensure communications are understood; Handles difficult and sensitive communications well.

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant or a related discipline.
