Specialist Engineer Geotechnical
- VPS6: $125,893 - $168,473 per annum plus superannuation
- Full Time, Ongoing

About the opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Asset Engineering – Roads, the Specialist Engineer – Geotechnical is responsible for, and leads a team of technical experts providing sound technical advice and support on all geotechnical matters across the Department of Transport and MTIA in relation to changes to the road network. The Specialist Engineer – Geotechnical will use creative and advanced problem solving to independely resolve complex geotechnical issues and implement a consistent approach in assigning risk levels for geotechnical hazards across the State. The Specialists Engineer – Geotechnical will also assist the Department of Transport with the development of business cases, discharge DoT responsibilities under the Building Act 1994 for review or Protection Work Notices, manage prequalification activities and incident/emergency response. Developing and maintaining effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, representing the department at key project meetings, and contributing to discipline Community of Practice will be an important component of this role.
Position Outcomes
- Preferred Technical Position – The Specialist Engineer – Geotechnical has provided highly considered technical solutions to the development of the preferred technical position in relation to impacts of proposed changes to the road network by DoT and MTIA.
- Engineering Input– The incumbent has provided technical input into key Statewide projects, relevant asset related business case, prequalification activities, and ensures that its component of the Engineering Service Level Agreement (or equivalent) and any Fee for Services activities across DoT and MTIA is working well
- Road Management Functions – The incumbent has effectively managed the completion of the geotechnical risk management program within required timeframes, responded within the legislated timeframe to all PWN (Protection Works Notice) requests the department receives under the Building Act 1994, and completed other activities to discharge its road manager obligations.

- Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering and relevant experience in geotechnical matters.
