About the Division

To deliver transport priorities through the development and delivery of an integrated pipeline of projects and support the Major Transport Infrastructure Program.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Regional Rail Revival, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of major regional rail initiatives to achieve an integrated transport network in Victoria bringing significant economic value across the State. The role supports the client interface function between the relevant delivery agency (Rail Projects Victoria) and the Department of Transport (DoT), other government departments and a wide range of stakeholders, to ensure that project objectives and network outcomes are met throughout the project life cycle.

Key Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the oversight, on behalf of the Department of Transport (DoT) in its client role, across Regional Rail Revival projects and other major rail projects.
  • Provide project management and reporting functions for the delivery of investment programs that align with DoT service delivery and benefit requirements.
  • Actively foster collaborative working relationships within DoT, Rail Projects Victoria and other Government departments, Portfolio Agencies, the Commonwealth Government, industry and other key stakeholders and establish ongoing initiatives to enhance these relationships including alerting senior management to potential issues.
  • Lead the resolution of project problems by guiding team members and working with staff members from DoT, Rail Projects Victoria and rail operators.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Project Management: Produces overarching program and project coordination plans where objectives are clearly allocated and recognised; Monitors performance against objectives and manages project risks and issues; Ensures project objectives are met.
  • Transport Network Knowledge: Demonstrated experience and understanding of the transport network, current transport network issues, key government priorities for its transformation and demonstrated experience and skills that provide an ability to understand new initiatives.
  • Leadership: Able to lead and guide team members and work with stakeholders to identify and resolve project issues.
  • Relationship building: Establishes and maintains relationships with people at all levels; Promotes harmony and consensus through diplomatic handling of disagreements; builds trust through consistent actions, values and communication.

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • A tertiary qualification in engineering, project management, planning or a related discipline would be well regarded
