The key skills required to perform the role include a proven understanding of legislative frameworks, policy and problem-solving skills, superior communication skills, and a strong awareness of issues relating to public land management through regular environmental scanning. The successful candidate will have good conceptual and analytical ability and be detail focussed.

  • Manage the development, review and amendment of sub-ordinate legislation to implement government policy for the public land estate under the direction of the Manager, Legislation Unit
  • Critically analyses legislation to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to response outcomes that may affect the broader public land arena
  • Provide high quality, timely and accurate advice on legislation for management of public land
  • Lead regulation projects in support of the strategic agenda and direction for public land and its management

The key selection criteria specified below outline the capabilities required for the position.

  • A relevant degree in law, public policy or natural resource management and/or relevant experience is desirable.
  • Experience with developing legislation and understanding of legislative frameworks.
  • Superior conceptual and analytical ability and detail focus.
  • Policy Skills: Builds trusting relationships with stakeholders to inform policy development and gain commitment to implementation; Formulates and communicates public policy options and recommendations; Scans for links and potential implications of proposed policy options; Keeps up-to-date with a broad range of contemporary issues.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2020.
