Position Details

The Department & Division

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is tasked with ensuring that Victoria has the right conditions to enable economic growth, while delivering liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities.

The Biodiversity Division consists of 200 professionals, developing efficient and practical regulations and programs, providing quality science information and decision-making support tools.

These services support the delivery of Victoria's policy settings for its native plants and animals and reflects their values as the building blocks of Victoria's natural environment and economy. 

The Role

Reporting to the Deputy Secretary, Energy Environment & Climate Change, this executive leadership role will shape and deliver on the strategic direction of the Division, supporting the Deputy Secretary in the overall operational management, strategic planning, policy development and service delivery activities.

The Executive Director plays a major role in building relationships across all levels within the department and across the portfolio and is responsible for ensuring excellence in delivering the Government's Biodiversity agenda.

The Candidate

You will be an experienced executive level leader with a track record of delivery for government in a highly complex and changing environment.

You will have outstanding communication skills, able to effectively convey complex scientific information to a wide variety of audiences and make strong, productive connections with key stakeholders.

Strong environmental based credentials and experience will also be essential, with a deep understanding and appreciation for how complex natural systems work.

This is an outstanding and rare opportunity for an accomplished environmental based leader with proven public sector experience to lead the delivery of the Victorian Biodiversity agenda.
