Position purpose

The Geodetic Technical Specialist provides technical support to the Geodesy Section by leading the strategic development and enhancement of Victoria's operational geodetic systems, including the Survey Mark Enquiry Service (SMES), and delivery of data and data services. The role will also be responsible for routine high-precision GNSS data processing and analysis to support national datum maintenance and monitoring of Victoria's geodetic infrastructure. 

Recognising the specialist nature of the role, this position offers a unique opportunity for growth and development in geodesy and GNSS. As such, the position can be filled at either the VPS Grade 4 or VPS Grade 5 level according to the capability and experience of the applicant. Specialist/Technical Expertise

VPS Grade 4

  • Mandatory Bachelor Degree or higher in Surveying, Geomatics, Spatial Sciences or equivalent.  A dual Geomatics/IT qualification would be extremely advantageous.
    • Skills and experience in Information Technology (IT) would be advantageous (e.g. programming, scripting, database management).
    • Knowledge and experience in survey measurement and uncertainty, GNSS, geodesy, geodetic computing. 

VPS Grade 5

  • Mandatory Bachelor Degree or higher in Surveying, Geomatics, Spatial Sciences or equivalent.  A dual Geomatics/IT qualification would be extremely advantageous.
    • Demonstrable skills and experience in IT (e.g. programming, scripting, database management) and business requirements analysis and communication.
    • Specialist expertise in survey measurement and uncertainty, GNSS, geodesy, geodetic computing.
