About the Business Unit

Beechworth Correctional Centre is a Corrections Victoria, minimum security prison for men, located in North East Victoria, within the Hume Region of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Corrections Victoria develops and implements policies, programs, and services to ensure that safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour. Corrections Victoria manages Community Correctional Services locations across the state and is responsible for managing Victoria's public prisons and overseeing the contracts relating to the management of the privately operated prisons. In doing so, Corrections Victoria delivers a safe and secure corrections system that actively engages offenders to promote positive behaviour change and prepare offenders for release back into the community.

 

About the Role

The Senior Recreation Officer will assess recreational needs of general and special needs prisoner to develop, implement and evaluate recreational programs to meet individual and group requirements. The role will negotiate with recreational and program providers to schedule delivery of services ensuring safety and security of all people participating in on and off station programs and recreational activities.

The Senior Recreation Officer will coordinate the services and functions of the Multi-Purpose Hall, Gym, Craft Centre, and Sports Oval and provide instructions, coaching and training to prisoners who participate in sport and recreation activities. In addition, the role will train and provide leadership to staff who work within recreation.

The role of a Senior Recreation Officer

  • Organise, deliver and monitor regular activities and programs.
  • Provide instruction, coaching and training to prisoners working in recreation areas.
  • Provide training and leadership to staff working in recreational areas.
  • Help deliver Corrections Victoria's mission of safe and secure corrections systems.

 

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will be able to show:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the complexities in commercial gym operation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sport and fitness, participants engagement and motivation to achieve outcomes.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Fitness or equivalent qualifications (or willingness to undertake this training).
  • A current Bus Licence would be considered an advantage, but not essential.
  • A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to undertake this training).
  • The successful completion of Prison Officer Pre-Service Training.
  • Level 2 in First Aid
