Position Details

We are building an inclusive workplace to help realise the potential of our employees, embrace our differences, and apply our diverse thinking to innovation and delivering services to Victorian communities. All jobs can be worked flexibly and we encourage job applications from Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, young people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

The focus of the role will be to support the development and implementation of improved approaches to timber harvesting and environmental compliance, and forest management more generally.  This is an opportunity to lead important work within DELWP to monitor and enforce the environmental standards for timber harvesting operations undertaken in State Forests.

This will include undertaking of education, audits, assessments, investigations and the undertaking of potential regulatory action to improve compliance with Code of Practice for Timber Production.  It also includes improving the systems, standards and procedures under which timber harvesting and environmental regulation and compliance operates, and contributing to improvements of the regulatory framework.

A key accountability of the role is to plan and undertake field work in a forest environment and lead intelligence driven timber harvesting compliance investigations and operations that are of a complex nature and against regulatory standards.  This includes undertaking audits, assessments, collection of field data in forested environments, preparation of witness statements and briefs of evidence.

We are seeking a candidate with the ability to liaise with industry, government and non-government stakeholders and assess intelligence against existing environmental standards.

This role will suit a candidate who is willing to undertake a mixture of field and office based work, travel to timber harvesting areas in Victoria's State Forests and support DELWP's broader environmental compliance investigations and operations across other (non timber harvesting) areas.

This is an ongoing position.
