Position Details

A unique opportunity presents to lead a large, high-performing team to deliver integrated forest, fire and emergency management operations on Victoria's public land.

As Executive Director, Forest and Fire Operations / Chief Fire Officer, you will manage an annual budget of $200 million and lead an 800 strong state-wide workforce in actively engaging and building partnerships with local communities, stakeholders and government to deliver a broad range of programs in Victoria's forests and parks – including emergency response, planned burning, compliance, roading, recreation and cultural heritage management.

You will lead Forest Fire Management Victoria in state and national emergency management arrangements, and will have a key role in implementing Safer Together, Victoria's risk-based approach to fire management to reduce the impacts of fire on people, property and the environment. 

You will be a people-focussed leader, with a passion for community service, land management and the environment.  You will have a commitment to driving a high performing culture, enhancing productivity, improving workplace safety and achieving better outcomes for all Victorians in delivering forest, fire and emergency management operations.

Candidates wishing to be considered for this opportunity will need to meet broad senior executive service criteria and have specific attributes including:

  • A background in forest / park / land management, and / or fire and emergency management;
  • Proven experience leading large teams in complex operating environments; and
  • Executive level experience, preferably with an understanding of the processes and levers that apply to Government.
