Position Details

We are building an inclusive workplace to help realise the potential of our employees, embrace our differences, and apply our diverse thinking to innovation and delivering services to Victorian communities. All jobs can be worked flexibly and we encourage job applications from Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, young people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

The Technology Solutions Unit is responsible for the development, maintenance and support of information systems that meet the fire and emergency management requirements of the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP).

This position is part of an agile team responsible for performing geospatial analysis and for development of web-based GIS (Mapping) applications and services using Geocortex, ESRI tools and Python scripting to support emergency management, planning burning and forest operations for DELWP and partner agencies across Victoria.  The team is responsible for the end to end software development lifecycle including requirements capture, design, implementation, testing, release and support of the product.

This role will be focused on geospatial analysis, data management, project work including developing new datasets or new apps for field data collection and integration with the new Fuel Management System.

The successful candidate will be part of a hard-working team, which gives you an idea of the behaviours required to fit in! You come to work, roll your sleeves up and work. You have an easy-going approach to working flexible hours when required which may be for example during the fire season or any other environmental emergency.

You are part of team that is responsible for keeping the GIS systems maintained and working, which sometimes requires the ability to work flexibly.  Often timelines are short and information is required for decision making around emergency response. The role will suit someone who can manage competing priorities and manage stress well.

We offer flexibility as to where you work and offer the successful candidate to work in one of DELWP's regional offices if required, however there is an expectation that you will be available and willing to commute to the East Melbourne office for key briefings and meetings.

This is a fixed term position available until 25 February 2020.

To be considered for this position, your application should include a supporting statement demonstrating that you meet the key selection criteria and any job requirements specified in the position description.

Applications close at midnight, Thursday 31 January 2019
