Position Details

This position is classified as an “identified position” aimed at increasing employment opportunities for Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of Aboriginal culture and an ability to communicate with Aboriginal communities. Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

The Traditional Owner Project Officer is responsible for overseeing the implementation of Department of Environment Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) commitments associated with Recognition Settlement Agreements between the State of Victoria and Traditional Owner Corporations in the Loddon Mallee Region. Maintain a strong relationship with a range of individuals and groups, including Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation and natural resource management government agencies and statutory entities. Initiate effective communication between groups to enable a genuine partnership approach to participation activities.

The position is key to delivering on participation actions set under the DELWP Aboriginal Inclusion Plan, Munganin Gadhaba 2016-2020 and requires a highly motivated and responsive person who is a proactive and innovative self-starter with excellent communication and relationship building skills.  Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly those affecting the Aboriginal people of Victoria, experience and knowledge of Traditional Owners and land management, including natural resource management, policy and/or program delivery, particularly as it relates to the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 is desirable.

This is a fixed term – flexible position for a period of 2 years.
