About the role

The Solution Architect is responsible for contributing to all aspects of the analysis, design, development, building and testing of IT solutions to support various LUV Business groups. They are responsible for managing their own work, estimating its complexity and size, determining technical design (within architectural guidelines) and contributing to continuous improvement. They also significantly contribute to analysis and testing activities.


  • Takes responsibility for investigative work to determine business requirements and specify effective business processes, through improvements in information systems, information management, practices, procedures, and organisation change. Applies and monitors the use of modelling and analysis tools, methods and standards, giving special consideration to business perspectives.
  • Engages with internal and external technical design groups and projects, to ensure viability and quality of technology changes against agreed service acceptance criteria.
  • Designs, codes, tests, corrects and documents complex programs and scripts from agreed specifications, and subsequent iterations, using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well engineered result. Takes part in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues' work.
  • Promotes the benefits of good design practices during solution development. Identifies, proposes, and initiates software process improvement activities within LUV, devising solutions. Takes action to exploit opportunities that will have a measurable effect on process effectiveness, with associated benefits to the business.
  • Specifies and designs large or complex systems. Selects appropriate design standards, methods and tools, consistent with agreed enterprise and solution architectures and ensures they are applied effectively. Reviews others' systems designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple systems and technology. Contributes to policy for selection of architecture components. Evaluates and undertakes impact analysis on major design options and assesses and manages associated risks. Ensures that the system design balances functional, service quality, security and systems management requirements.

Specialist/Technical Expertise

  • Required – Proven experience collaborating with various business groups and IT teams to analyse, design and implement new features
  • Desirable - Experience with back-end programming languages such as NodeJs, Golang, C# etc: to create and maintain RESTful APIs. Experience with one of the following version control systems - GitHub, CodeCommit, BuitBucket.
  • Desirable - Experience with one of the following - AWS Cloudformation, Docker, Kubernetes. Certification for any of the cloud platform (Azure, AWS or Google Cloud)
  • Desirable – Experience working with one of the frontend programming technologies – Javascript, HTML, CSS
  • Desirable - Experience working with UI/UX designing and converting designs to visual elements.
  • Desirable - strong skills and knowledge of Spatial Information Management principles, practices and tools.
